Spring Championships Day 1 and 2 - Weather Gods Smile!

Published 13:58 on 15 Apr 2014
A glorious weekend of racing with more wind than forecast and sun! The race committee excelled with 4 windward leewards on Sat and 2 round the cans on Sunday. For most crews this was there first time this year back out on the water. The relatively short legs on Sat tested boat handling and big tides and flukey winds on Sun certainly tested tactical skills. With Sigma 38 racing in IRC 3 Persephone got off to a blistering start with 4 wins out of 6 races, and 2 firsts in IRC 3. Both Pandanova and Light also took a win each, leaving them 2nd and 3rd respectively with only a 2 points separation. As usual racing amongst the Sigma 38s was intense with lots of close quarter action and results only separated by seconds. The talk in the bar centred around how much crew are enjoying this weekend format which actually features more racing and better opportunity for socialising. It actually felt like a holiday, all be it an exhausting one! The next championship weekend includes the Sigma 38 supper in the King and Queen.
